How Your Mindset Can Make or Break Your Business
Hey girl! Today we're talking about how your mindset can make or break your business. Let’s look a little bit at the scientific side, shall we?! You see, there's this thing called your RAS (reticular activating system).
So, what is it and why does it matter? We will dive into that today and then I will give you some action steps that you can take away and implement to begin shifting your mindset to begin moving you towards your BEST life!

First, when I got started in business and started hearing about all this mindset stuff, I thought it was kind of hokey. Anyone with me on that? Maybe you’ve been hearing about all this “mindset-mumbo-jumbo” but you’re just not sold.
Here’s the thing, as I dove into my business more and started talking with others (ladies in their own business, my own business coaches, self-development courses, books, etc.) I began realizing JUST HOW MUCH my mindset saturates every single part of my business (and life)! It truly makes a world of difference!
Truth: What you think about expands.
Your thoughts become your action, then your actions create your results.
Did you know?? – About 2 million bits of sensory information bombard your brain every second. We would be absolutely crazy if those 2 million bits were actually absorbed, right? Your RAS blocks most of that and allows only about 5-9 bits of sensory information into your brain each second. It is responsible for telling your brain what to focus on!
Here is an EXERCISE I want you to do right now:
Look around your room and focus on everything that is green around you (Take about 5 sec).
Did you do it???
If you’re one of those skippers who didn’t really do it… then STOP and do it now!
Ok, now I want you to close your eyes and tell me everything in the room that was blue.
That sends our brain into a tailspin, right?! Since we were telling our brain to notice everything green, we didn’t remember anything that was blue!
Another example of this: Imagine your best friend just got a new car... and now all of a sudden you are noticing the exact same car EVERYWHERE.
That is your RAS in action.
Your RAS tells your brain what to focus on. What that means for your life and your business is that what you think about becomes your focus. You begin to think about that focus more and more. And yes, it can even begin to saturate your entire life.
So, if you are thinking about uplifting positive encouraging things, then that is what is going to expand in your thought life – actually, in all your life. That is what you are going to start noticing more of and focusing on.
If you are thinking about all the things that you don’t have in life (money, clients, projects, or work), then you are going to start noticing more, and more, and more of what you don’t have! And you guessed it, It’s only going to bring you down.
So what about that freedom-filled lifestyle that you dream of? You better bet that if you are filling your brain with negative thoughts… that lifestyle will remain a dream instead of becoming a reality.
That is going to bring you further away from that freedom-filled, peaceful, abundant lifestyle that you want… So the more we actually focus on the things that are good and uplifting, the more we start to notice those things that are already in our life. The more we begin to attract more of those things into our life!
Here are 4 action steps you can do right now to move you closer to that freedom-filled lifestyle…
1. Write down what success means to you in your personal life and in your business.
2. Write down what your most successful business looks like to you. If you could snap your fingers and have your dream business, what would it be like?
3. Create your I AM statement. This is a statement that you can repeat to yourself when things get tough. Say it every day! Say it when you get up in the morning! You are basically training your RAS to continue to notice the positive things: Who you are and what you do. Who it is you want to become… You are encouraging yourself and reminding yourself of who and what you are.
4. STOP the negative thoughts before they begin. Notice when and how much you are complaining, what are you complaining about, those negative thoughts about yourself and your business.
So, what are you telling your brain?
I want you to start noticing these things. Get intentional in noticing this! Start thinking about positive things. A great idea is to start journaling! Start writing down all the good that is already in your life. Focus on the good and I promise you, it will begin to expand in your thought life.
I want to leave you with this… As a Christian, I use to think all this mindset stuff was a little weird, but you know what? It’s actually biblical! Check out Philippians 4:6-8 which basically talks about not being anxious checking your thoughts…
"Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus. Finally, brothers and sisters, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable—if anything is excellent or praiseworthy—think about such things." (Phil. 4:6-8)
So that’s the encouragement I have for you today, what I want you to walk through, and what I want you to do in your business to start having that success mindset!
