How to duplicate and backup a page in Squarespace
Have you ever wished you could quickly create a new page or post on your Squarespace website without spending hours building it from scratch? Well, today we’re going to talk all about how you can speed up your website building process by duplicating pages and posts!
So first, why would you ever need to duplicate a page?
Well, there are actually a TON of reasons and practical applications for duplicating pages and posts… so let’s dive in!
Reason #1.
So you don’t lose your perfectly designed content
There is NOTHING worse than having a new, beautifully designed website (like one created by us here at Carbon and Clay), and then facing the dreaded “WHAT IF I MESS IT UP?!” overwhelm.
The good news is that by duplicating your new page before you begin working on it, you’ll have an extra copy just in case you accidentally (gulp) *mess it up*.
Reason #2.
So you can keep it consistent
When it comes to a strong brand and website, consistency is key. This means that each page/post should look similar to every other page on your site. The easiest way to do this is to re-use the same graphics, colors, and aesthetics throughout your whole site.
If you can take a perfectly designed page and just duplicate it, you can use the existing aesthetics as a blueprint to create your new page. Just tweak the graphics slightly and add your new images and content, and you’ll be on your way to a consistent site.
Reason #3.
So you can quickly create a new page or blog post
I can’t tell you how many times I’ve duplicated landing pages, thank you pages, or just regular pages on my site to QUICKLY reuse the layout and design that I’ve already developed. By duplicating a page, you can keep the aesthetics and build a new page FAST.
Reason #4.
So you can test something out without losing hours of hard work.
If you really want to complete re-design a page and change the layout but you’re a little gun-shy to totally revamp a page that’s looking pretty good (not to mention, a page you’ve spent hours on already)... then duplicating a page is going to be your saving grace! Once you’ve duplicated a page, you can go to town, confidently tweaking and changing without having to worry about losing all of your hard work.
So, now that we know why you need to be duplicating pages… let’s cover how it’s done! This step is super easy.
